"Global warming":

the Left's last best chance to gain a stranglehold on our political system and economy

For decades, environmentalism has been the Left's best excuse for increasing government control over our actions in ways both large and small. It's for Mother Earth! It's for the children! It's for the whales! But until now, the doomsday-scenario environmental scares they've trumped up haven't been large enough to justify the lifestyle restrictions they want to impose. With global warming, however, greenhouse gasbags can argue that auto emissions in Ohio threaten people in Paris, and that only "global governance" (Jacques Chirac's words) can tackle such problems.

Now, in The Politically Incorrect Guide(tm) to Global Warming and Environmentalism, Christopher C. Horner tears the cover off the Left's manipulation of environmental issues for political purposes--and lays out incontrovertible evidence for the fact that catastrophic man-made global warming is just more Chicken-Little hysteria, not actual science. He explains why, although Al Gore and his cronies among the media elites and UN globalists endlessly bleat that "global warming" is an unprecedented global crisis, they really think of it as a dream come true. Le Hummer: un choix écologique!

Des dents vont grincer, des visages vont se figer : le Hummer H3 serait plus écologique que la Toyota Prius Hybride. Explications.

Il s'agit des résultats d'une enquête menée par le bureau d'études américain CNW Marketing Research (www.cnwmr.com) sur 320 modèles présents sur le marché américain. Cette enquête tient compte, une fois n'est pas coutume, de trois critères quoi paraissent indispensables à toute étude sur le sujet. Elle prend ainsi en compte les trois phases de la " vie " d'une voiture : sa conception, son utilisation et son élimination. Le tout est reporté à un indice comptant le coût en dollars de chaque véhicule par mile parcouru.

Et c'est là que les surprises arrivent. La Prius est ainsi créditée d'un indice de 3,24 tandis que le Hummer H3 obtient 2,07 ! La grande Classe E de Mercedes est très proche de la Prius avec 3,31. Parmi les voitures les mieux classées et disponibles sur le marché européen, on compte la Toyota Yaris avec 0,93, la Saab 9-5 (1,54), la BMW Série 3 (1,58) ou encore la Mercedes Classe C (1,69). Parmi les plus mauvais élèves, on retrouve presque sans surprise les Bentley, Rolls-Royce et Maybach, mais aussi la Porsche Cayman avec un indice de 5,383.

Cette étude, menée par un cabinet indépendant et selon des critères indiscutables, remet donc en cause bien des idées reçues sur la dépense énergétique réelle de chaque véhicule, de sa conception à sa disparition. Propriétaires de Hummer, réjouissez-vous !

THE MYTH OF KYOTO

THROUGHOUT THE Cold War, until the final collapse of the Soviet Empire, there were always people in the West -- usually well-educated -- who believed in the good intentions of communism.

Universities were an incubator for Marxism and a benign view of Soviet altruism. When Sovietism became tainted after "aberrations" like crushing the Hungarian rebellion (1956) and the invasion of Czechoslovakia (1968), admiration was shifted to China and the humanitarianism of Mao Tse-tung. Until he was also discredited.

Such people tended to blame the West (i.e. the U.S.) for the Cold War, and figured if we disarmed, the Kremlin would also disarm, making the world safer.

When the Soviet Union imploded, I and others wrote that the types who once saw humanity in Marxism would now switch to the environment and see salvation for mankind in opposing those they felt were desecrating nature.

Out of this "instinct" emerged the Kyoto Accord -- the campaign to fight global warming which supposedly threatens the world, but is a myth.

One who combats the Kyoto/global warming myth is novelist Michael Crichton, whose new book, State of Fear, is a thriller laced with indisputable facts. Another is America and Europe by Canadian Craig Read. Both books should make those who espouse Kyoto feel foolish.

New ice age

Warnings of global warming by the UN and select scientists are reminiscent of UN warnings around 1970 that a new ice age was approaching -- which it may well be, in a thousand years or so.

Like Crichton, Read notes that climate change is one of the least-understood sciences, involving the sun, atmosphere, oceans, land surface, ice sheets, the biosphere, cloud coverage, etc. -- all relationships impossible to gauge or predict in modelling programs by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) which advises the UN.

The more one examines global warming, the less likely it seems that carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions have anything but a negligible effect. The Kyoto agreement calls for developed nations to reduce CO2 emissions to 1990 levels, but okays poor countries continuing with fossil fuel emissions until they catch up to developed country emissions. Poor nations can even sell their "credits" to rich countries that can continue violating standards.

Does that make sense? Of course not. More, Kyoto seems an intricate scheme to redistribute wealth -- to hold back rich countries so poorer ones can catch up.

The U.S. has rejected Kyoto. That means it's dead.

No evidence

In fact, there's no evidence that CO2 is damaging to nature. Also, there is solid scientific evidence that CO2 lags average temperature rises by several centuries. CO2 levels were higher at the end of the last ice age (114,000 years ago) than during the much warmer period 43 million years earlier. CO2 levels are higher today than the relatively hot period 17 million years ago.

Scientifically, there seems little relation between CO2 levels and warmth. Cold summers and hot winters (and vice-versa) are far more likely to be cyclical -- nothing to do with SUVs or air conditioners.

From 1910-1945, temperatures rose slightly, then cooled between 1945 and 1975 -- when, inexplicably, CO2 emissions rose. Temperatures rose again 1975-2000, with the CO2 rise negligible.

I'm no scientist, but I recognize political agendas and wealth-redistribution schemes. And Kyoto and IPCC are recognizably political rather than scientific. SUVs and world trade are irrelevant to changes in the weather or climate.

What exactly is Kyoto? It seems aimed at reducing the energy advantage enjoyed by the U.S. It also advances the lib-left's influence on environmental control and media support. It enhances more government control over the economy, and limits independence and entrepreneurial projects.

These goals are reminiscent of discredited Marxism.

As in the bad old days of the Cold War, when the average working guy, more than the enlightened academic, knew instinctively that Marxism was up to no good, so working people today ignore the warnings of impending doom if Kyoto doesn't succeed.

First, cyclical weather changes are normal and inevitable. Second, a little more global warming this winter would be welcome.

Une soixantaine d'environnementalistes d'Amérique du Nord sont réunis près d'Edmonton pour apprendre à devenir de meilleurs militants. Pendant toute la semaine, ils suivront des ateliers sur des thèmes allant de la sensibilisation du public à la construction de barricades.

Parmi les participants à cette semaine d'entraînement figure Samuel Zighmi, un militant américain qui se dit très heureux de ce qu'il va apprendre et de rencontrer « tous les gens qui ont de l'expérience dans ce domaine, qui ont déjà fait beaucoup d'actions dans Greenpeace ».

Un des organisateurs du camp, J.R Roof, est le cofondateur de Ruckus Society. Il est déjà monté sur une rampe de lancement quelques minutes avant la mise à feu d'un missile pour protester contre la militarisation de l'espace aux États-Unis.

Il précise que toute une gamme d'actions, de l'éducation à la désobéissance civile, est nécessaire pour arrêter l'exploitation pétrolière dans le nord de l'Alberta.

Aux États-Unis, neuf militants écologistes radicaux ont écopé de peines allant de 3 à 13 ans de prison pour leur participation à une série d'actes de sabotage et de vandalisme commis entre 1996 et 2001.

Ces hommes et femmes âgés de 26 à 38 ans, dont le Canadien Darren Todd Thurston, de Vancouver, faisaient partie d'un groupuscule baptisé The Family, une cellule du Front de libération de la Terre et du Front de libération des animaux. Ces deux organisations s'autorisent à commettre des actes violents pour défendre leurs convictions écologistes.

Entre 1996 et 2001, les 10 accusés ont attaqué plusieurs cibles, dans cinq États de l'ouest des États-Unis, à l'aide d'engins incendiaires faits de contenants de lait remplis d'essence. Ces cibles étaient des usines agro-alimentaires, des scieries, des entrepôts, une centrale électrique, une concession automobile vendant des 4x4 et un hôtel en construction dans une station de montagne. Ces actes de sabotage et de vandalisme ont causé des dégâts évalués à 40 millions de dollars.

Au Canada, certains actes « écoterroristes » ont été perpétrés au cours des dernières années. À Vancouver, des boucheries et un commerce au détail d'équipement de chasse ont été pris pour cibles, tandis qu'en Ontario, ce sont un magasin Zellers et un club de golf qui ont été visés.

Global Warmism

Then as now, the doomsters identified human sinfulness as the propulsive factor in the planet's rapid downward slide. Then as now, a buoyant market throve on fear. The Roman Catholic Church sold indulgences like checks. The sinners established a line of credit against bad behavior and could go on sinning. Today a world market in "carbon credits" is in formation. Those whose "carbon footprint" is small can sell their surplus carbon credits to others less virtuous than themselves.

The modern trade is as fantastical as the medieval one. There is still zero empirical evidence that anthropogenic production of CO2 is making any measurable contribution to the world’s present warming trend. The greenhouse fearmongers rely entirely on unverified, crudely oversimplified computer models to finger mankind’s sinful contribution. Devoid of any sustaining scientific basis, carbon trafficking is powered by guilt, credulity, cynicism and greed, just like the old indulgences, though at least the latter produced beautiful monuments.

L'écologisme est un millénarisme

L’écologisme doit être considéré comme une doctrine proprement religieuse. Attirant principalement les jeunes urbains éduqués et bien-pensants, cette doctrine nihiliste propose tout simplement de sacrifier le dynamisme de nos sociétés sur le grand autel d’un simulacre de bonne conscience tout simplement écœurant.

Le fantasme écologiste, c’est celui d’annihiler tout ce qui se démarque du reste au niveau de son dynamisme, de sa mobilité, de sa puissance, de son efficacité, et donc aussi au niveau de sa "dépense d’énergie". Ce qu’aime l’écologiste, c’est tout ce qui ne bouge pas, tout ce qui ne fait pas, tout ce qui ne se remarque pas, tout ce qui n’exerce pas sur le monde une action transformatrice. La figure de l’écologiste, c’est celle de l’antiquaire. L’objectif de l’écologiste, c’est la préservation muséale d’une nature discursivement objectivée, c’est l’anéantissement organisé de toutes les forces tentant actuellement de réaliser leur potentiel vital à travers la transformation de la matière en énergie.

Que le Groenland fut au Xe siècle une "terre verte", l’écologiste bien-pensant n’en a rien à foutre. Sa vérité, il l’a devant lui : l’humanité est pécheresse, Dieu-Terre est fâché, et nous allons tous périr à cause de notre trop grande liberté, source même de nos péchés. Ses incantations, il les prononce au petit matin : du contrôle, de la régulation, des supra-structures globales, de la culpabilisation morale, de la dévolution, de la décroissance, des lois, des règles, des plans, des amendes, etc. Une grande procession d'idéalistes gémissants réclâment la Grande Loi qui, enfin, les apaisera tous...

Il viendra un temps où les écologistes se devront d'être confrontés à coups de barres de fer. Avec eux, la discussion n’est pas possible. Pourquoi? Eh bien tout simplement parce qu’il sont réellement et mystiquement convaincus d’être en lutte contre l’apocalypse imminente, et d’affronter courageusement des forces inhumaines et démoniaques.

Regardez bien les écologistes radicaux. Ils font peur. Ils possèdent leur vérité, LA VÉRITÉ. Leurs yeux scintillent du vide alarmiste qui les habite. Discours religieux. Discours fanatiques. Absence viscérale de toute forme de pensée critique. Des loques nihilistes en mission, des larves dogmatiques en pleine conquête. L’objectif : domestiquer la liberté pour la sacrifier à un idéal purement esthétique… soumission planétaire à un design d'intérieur idéal... Grande Termitière Pacifiée...
